Pedestrian killed attempting to walk across the street

December 5, 2011 Car Accidents

On behalf of Rosenberg, Minc, Falkoff & Wolff, LLP

Pedestrians expect the roads to be safe and expect that drivers are looking out for them, but often distracted driving can lead to accidents. More than half of all traffic deaths are from pedestrian accidents, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.

Early Sunday morning on Dec. 4 a 93-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a car on Long Island. According to police, the car accident happened as the woman was trying to cross New York Avenue. A car heading south hit her.

The victim was taken to Huntington Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police are investigating the accident and have asked anyone who witnessed the accident to report the details to them.

Although it is unclear what exactly happened, the family of the victim may be able to collect compensation for their tragic loss. No amount of money will bring the woman back, but compensation may help cover funeral expenses and the pain and suffering the family is likely enduring.

Car accidents can be life changing for some. Individuals may require medical procedures and a long recovery may prevent people from working. Those in New York City and elsewhere who have been injured in an accident may wish to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney. The attorney may be able to investigate the accident and help determine who is responsible. The attorney may also be able to help individuals collect compensation to pay medical bills and to make up for lost income. Although car accidents are frightening and often cause turmoil, there are places to go for help.
