High-Voltage Shock Leaves Construction Worker in Critical Condition

August 22, 2017 Construction Accidents

Electrocution hazards are a leading cause of injury on construction sites, and electrocution is one of the “fatal four” top causes of construction worker deaths according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Many construction workers who sustain permanent injury will consult with a New York City electrocution lawyer for help in taking legal action after they suffer an electric shock while they are performing their work duties. An attorney can also help families when workers pass away as a result of a high voltage shock that causes a fatality to occur. Both workers and their families should be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits in cases where electrical injuries cause harm.

Electrocution is a big risk for construction workers because there are many potential electrocution hazards on construction sites. OSHA indicates that the top electrical hazards faced by construction workers include making accidental contact with power lines; using extension and flexible cords in an improper and unsafe way; and coming into contact with energized sources.

Unfortunately, workers are exposed to these hazards far too frequently on New York construction sites. In fact, the New York Daily News reported recently that a construction worker was left in extremely critical condition following a high voltage shock.

Construction Worker Seriously Hurt By High-Voltage Shock

According to the New York Daily News, a construction worker was performing his job atop a skyscraper on Park Avenue in Manhattan when he suffered a serious electrical injury. The skyscraper was a 29-story office building located near East 32nd Street in Murray Hill.  The incident occurred at approximately 1:45.

The incident involved the construction worker being zapped with high-voltage electricity. He was left in extremely critical condition following the electrical exposure and he had to be rushed to the nearby Bellevue Hospital Center to receive emergency treatment.

His name was not released after the incident, according to the Daily News, and it was not yet clear exactly how the injured worker had come into contact with the high voltage electricity.  Authorities sent investigators to the scene of the incident in order to try to determine how the worker came into contact with the electrical charge that left him in extremely critical condition.

If you or a loved one suffers an electrical injury at work, you need to make sure that you get appropriate benefits through workers’ compensation. You should be able to get your medical bills covered and to receive appropriate compensation for any work missed or for income not earned by a deceased loved one due to death from electrical injury.  Workers’ compensation lost wages or death benefits can make compensation available.

A New York City electrocution lawyer can provide you with help in making a claim for benefits so you can get the money you need to support yourself and your family after a tragic electrical accident. Contact an attorney for help as soon as possible following the injury so you can make you claim.
