GARBAGE TRUCK COMPANY MAY BE LIABLE FOR TRAGIC ACCIDENT HOWELL, NEW JERSEY (July 28, 2016)
An 82-year-old was critically injured after a garbage truck ran over his leg and amputated it in the process, according to NJ.com. Police say that the man suffered severe injuries in addition to losing his leg. The garage truck was backing up outside of the Cherry Tree Plaza office park by Route 9. There was an outpouring of grief and support on Facebook following the accident where the injured man was identified as George Miecke. Authorities have not been able to identify the driver of the trash truck that ran over the man. Emergency medical workers rushed to the scene of the accident and began administering aid to George Miecke. They immediately applied a tourniquet in order to stop the bleeding and rushed him to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Police are saying that the garbage truck was from Central Jersey Waste and Recycling in Ewing Township. Police are still investigating this accident, but the trash truck driver may be liable for hitting George Miecke. The operator of any vehicle is supposed to make sure that their path is clear before they back up. Back up accidents are completely preventable and more often than not indicate an irresponsible driver. The trash truck in this accident appears to have run over the man in the middle of the parking lot. How exactly did the driver fail to see him?
