Brain Injuries: Using Art to Portray Reality

Posted on May 31, 2016 in Brain Injury, Personal Injury

Brain injuries are one of the most life-changing injuries that a person can experience. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can affect mood, cognitive skills, and reasoning skills, among other impacts on your health. A person’s entire life can be changed as a result of a traumatic injury to the brain.  Now, Fox 9 reports that hundreds of victims who are living with the daily reality of brain injuries have prepared exhibits to help to demonstrate what life is really like when coping with a brain injury.

Because a brain injury can cause long-lasting or permanent symptoms that change your life forever in profound ways, it is imperative for brain injury victims to get help from New York City injury attorneys.  Contact an attorney as soon as possible after a brain injury is sustained to find out if you can pursue a damage claim to get the money that you need for effective TBI treatment and for ongoing care you may require due to your injury.

How Brain Injuries Can Affect Victims

Fox 9 reported that an exhibit of art prepared by brain injury victims took place at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center in March, which is Brain Injury Awareness Month.  The exhibit showed masks which brain injury victims made in order to reflect what their lives are really like as they cope with symptoms and limitations resulting from their injuries. The exhibit was called Unmasking Brain Injury and was meant to show each victim’s “personal story of struggle.”

One of the victims was hit by a truck at the age of four, sustaining a brain injury that has affected his entire life. The creator of the mask entitled his mask in the exhibit Barred from Society.  He told the news that “It’s a wonderful gift for all of us to be able to tell about our stories.”

Hopefully, exhibits like this one, and events like Brain Injury Awareness Month, will make it possible for more awareness of what traumatic brain injury victims go through. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports, traumatic brain injury is the cause of 138 deaths each day and TBIs cause 30 percent of all fatalities from injuries.  More than 2.5 million visits to the ER each year also occur because of traumatic injuries to the brain. People who survive a TBI can “face effects lasting a few days to disabilities which may last for the rest of their lives.”

Those who have been harmed by a traumatic brain injury will need to ensure they understand the life-long implications of their losses when they pursue injury claims. The attorneys at Rosenberg, Minc, Falkoff & Wolff can help those who have experienced a traumatic brain injury to pursue a claim to get medical bills and other costs covered. Contact an attorney as soon as possible if either you or a loved one has been the victim of an accident leading to a TBI so you can fight for the money you need for treatment, adaptive medical devices, loss of income, and other economic and non-financial loss.

I referred Rosenberg, Minc, Falkoff & Wolff to a friend needing help with a birth injury & medical malpractice case. Having worked with founding partner Daniel Minc myself on a car accident case, I was sure they would be able to deliver results.
