A horrific crash in Brooklyn shows what can happen when drivers fail to obey traffic lights. According to the New York Post, a 21-year-old man was driving his black Acura with three friends when he ran through a red light along Avenue U around 2 a.m. and collided with a Toyota Camry carrying two people, a 26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman.

The crash left the 21-year-old driver dead. The two people in the Toyota Camry were also pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A passenger in the Acura sustained head injuries and was brought to Lutheran Medical Center to be treated.

The impact of the crash reportedly sent the Camry towards an MTA bus. The Acura went flying towards cars that were parked nearby.

The mother of the 24-year-old woman said that her daughter attended Brooklyn College and had just moved out and into an apartment of her own.

“She was beautiful, smart. She was fun loving, she was vibrant,” the victim’s mother said.

This fatal car crash is a reminder of the terrible tragedies that can result when one driver chooses to drive recklessly. According to the 24-year-old woman’s surviving parents, the driver of the Acura was traveling 70 mph when the crash occurred.

It is unclear what kind of legal action, if any, will be taken in this specific case. However, when New York City residents are harmed as a result of a negligent driver, they may choose to pursue a civil lawsuit. When a loved one is killed, surviving family members can hold a negligent driver responsible through a wrongful death lawsuit.
