A drunk driving charge in New York or elsewhere can have serious consequences, especially when the driver is also involved in a car accident where others are injured. That was the case for one Albany man who was arrested and charged with DWI after his car crashed in front of the Albany City Hall and injured two people.
According to police, the 42-year-old driver smashed his Ford Sedan into another vehicle around 7 p.m. The other car was occupied by two people who both sustained injuries. They were transported to the Albany Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. After the accident occurred, police say the suspect drove away before being pulled over and arrested.
No information was released as to the suspect’s blood alcohol level. It was also not reported if any additional charges are pending.
When someone is injured in a car accident, it can often be life changing. A person may require surgery or other procedures and those can be hugely expensive. When New York City residents are injured in auto accidents caused by the reckless actions of another person, they may have remedies they can pursue in civil court. These remedies may include compensation for their personal injuries, as well as for any property that may have been damaged as a result of the accident.
Drivers in New York and elsewhere expect that the roads they drive on will be safe, but that is not always the case. Those who are injured in a car accident may benefit from consulting with a New York attorney experienced in personal injury cases. The attorney may be able to help determine who is responsible and help individuals receive compensation.
